The Chicago Bears defense is already immensely grateful to the Oakland Raiders for willingly trading them Khalil Mack. There’s is no way they could ask the same team to send them more help at this point. Well, sometimes the good fortune just keeps flowing after the first cut has been made. Weeks after shipping out Mack, the Raiders made yet another puzzling decision.
Given their team only has seven sacks in eight games to this point, it would be considered wise for them to not unload anymore pass rushers, right? Welp. Jon Gruden doesn’t play by normal rules it seems. After an embarrassing 34-3 pasting at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers, the team decided to part ways with veteran defensive end Bruce Irvin.
What makes it all the more confusing is that Irvin was responsible for three of those seven sacks they have.

Reuniting Mack and Irvin could further bolster Chicago Bears defense
The Bears have every reason to explore making a waiver claim on Irvin in the next couple of days. It would be even better if he went unclaimed because then the Bears would have an even better chance to lure him in considering they employ his former partner in crime. From 2016 through 2017, Mack and Irvin compiled a total of 36.5 sacks.
Even though he just turned 31, it’s apparent that Irvin can still get the job done. If nothing else he’d be an upgrade over Leonard Floyd at this point. The former 1st round pick has zero sacks this season and he’s had the advantage of playing with Mack and Akiem Hicks the entire time. Boasts that Irvin can’t make.
The Bears have just enough salary cap space to work out a short-term deal to bring him in if he’s interested in reuniting with his old buddy on a team that currently leads their division.
