Pat McAfee Says “Dog” Matt Eberflus Was Right Choice For The Bears

-

Pat McAfee played several years for the Indianapolis Colts as an All-Pro punter. Since retiring, he has deep connections to the organization and has only expanded his reach in the NFL community. Many players have appeared on his show in the past few years. That has enabled him to become one of the more credible insiders in the business, even if that isn’t his primary job. So it is always interesting to hear his thoughts on various moves around the league.

David Kaplan took the opportunity to ask him about new Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus on Unfiltered. McAfee has a unique perspective in that he still has strong ties to the Colts organization from his playing days. He’s interviewed several players from the team that have worked with Eberflus since he joined the team in 2018. From everything McAfee has heard, the Bears are getting a good one.

This is consistent with other Matt Eberflus comments.

He might not be the flashiest hire of this year’s coaching circuit, but he is one of the most qualified. He has over a decade of coordinating experience going back to his college days at Missouri. The man got to learn under some good head coaches including Gary Pinkel and Frank Reich. Most importantly, he has a straightforward approach to the task at hand. Eberflus will coach his players hard and set a high standard everybody must meet.

His job isn’t to be an offensive mastermind. It is to get 53 players on the roster to give their absolute best every Sunday. From how his former players speak of him, they have no doubt the Bears will love what he brings to the table. It won’t be easy, but the results will be worth it. Matt Eberflus isn’t one to sugarcoat things. If guys want to win, the only way to do that is to work and play hard.

Subscribe to the BFR podcast and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

That might be too old school for some. It isn’t. It’s always been that way. It will always be that way. Eberflus knows this. His goal is to sell it to the next generation of players. That is the trick many head coaches never learn.

McAfee loves on Rodgers and Urlacher. I feel Urlacher has some early CTE as much as Kruetz has has. Kruetz and Butkus said they would want to punch out Aaron Rodgers for taunting Bears fans, Urlacher wants Aaron to be best buddy. Yet…everyone remember what Urlacher did in 2007 NFC championship game vs New Orleans, and what Urlacher did to Reggie Bush when Reggie tried to celebrate in Bears end zone.
Also, Urlacher not better than Singletary. No way…Singletary may have been smartest LB in history of game.

Love Pats show but Im not sold on a Lovie wanna be who is yet another DC in a long line of failed DC HC attempts by the Bears. Gonna have to show me first before I buy into the same old story from Bears Kiss butt media. The funny part is Nagy is the 3rd winningest HC since the 70s….yeah we have been that bad at hiring coaches and GMS
