Packers’ Misery Continues Ahead Of Chicago Bears Game

-

The Green Bay Packers offense has been the envy of the NFL for a long time. However, as injuries mounted, signs of weakness began to materialize late last season. Then they trade star wide receiver Davante Adams in the off-season. On opening day, things came to a head when the Minnesota Vikings smothered them. Aaron Rodgers failed to throw a touchdown pass and got sacked four times. Green Bay fell 23-7. It was an enjoyable watch for Chicago Bears fans.

It doesn’t sound like things are getting any better this week. The Packers have really missed their star offensive linemen, David Bakhtiari and Elgton Jenkins. Both suffered season-ending injuries last season. It was hoped they might return when the season began, but that wasn’t the case in Minnesota. According to Ian Rapoport, it is a strong possibility they won’t play against the Bears either.

The Chicago Bears know this enemy.

Underestimating Rodgers is the fast track to disappointment. He’s beaten them every time for the past three years. It wasn’t hyperbole when he said he owns them. Still, part of the reason he’s been so dominant is the Packers have surrounded him with elite talent. Now Adams, his safety blanket, is gone. The remaining wide receivers looked rough last Sunday. If Bakhtiari and Jenkins are out again, it will be the best opportunity the Bears have had in a long time to take #12 down.

Their defense has reasons to feel optimistic. They put lots of pressure on Trey Lance in the opener against San Francisco. If they can slow down that Packers running game, they might be able to get after Rodgers. In truth, they alone won’t win this game. The Chicago Bears need a good outing from their offense. It’s unlikely that 19 points will be enough to beat Green Bay. If ever there was a time for Justin Fields to seize his moment, this is the one.

One thing is clear. Based on how the team has operated for the past month, expect them to be prepared. Matt Eberflus will have them ready. From there, it’s all about execution and a little luck.
