Packers Fans Melting Down During Bears Comeback Is Pure Gold

-

The Green Bay Packers were in a familiar position. They held the lead in the 4th quarter against the Chicago Bears. Everybody knew the story by then. A couple more plays would be made and they head home with another victory. All they had to do was recover an onside kick, which had an 8% chance of success anyway. It was over. Cairo Santos kicked the ball. It bounced a few times. Rome Doubs, the Packers’ ever-reliable receiver, waited to scoop it up. Then…chaos. Doubs grabbed for the ball too high, allowing it to his the turf. Bears special teams ace Josh Blackwell immediately pounced on it.

Just like that, it was a different game. Caleb Williams led the team down the field with under two minutes left, finding Jahdae Walker on 4th down for the equalizer touchdown. Montez Sweat sacked Malik Willis to force overtime. Green Bay seemed to regain their footing with a good drive to open the extra frame, but fumbled the snap on 4th down at the Bears’ 36. Three plays later, Williams launched arguably the most beautiful pass in franchise history to D.J. Moore for a game-winning touchdown.

It was a game for the ages, and the only thing that might’ve been as entertaining as it was seeing Packers fans crumble to pieces as it unfolded. The reactions are as legendary and hilarious as you can possibly imagine.

The Chicago Bears finally got some payback.

After all, how many times had the Packers done that to them over the years when Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers were the quarterbacks? Every other year, it felt like they were pulling some late magic to rip out the Bears’ hearts. Green Bay fans were always delighted every step of the way. Now they get a taste of what that felt like for so many years. It’s not fun, is it? The fact that it came at the hands of a Bears quarterback made it extra sweet. This wasn’t a fluke happenstance brought about by a special team play or a defensive showcase. This was Williams ripping their hearts out.

It is impossible to know how far the Chicago Bears will go in the playoffs. They’re a flawed team. Everybody can see it. Yet one thing is clearer than ever. They aren’t afraid of the Packers anymore. Williams is 2-2 against them and would be 3-1 if not for a blocked field goal last year. Now he knows he can overcome their supposed mastery of late-game situations. This game might be the pendulum finally swinging back in Chicago’s direction. Maybe we’ll see more videos like that in the near future.
