A lot of Chicago Bears record predictions came out towards the end of the offseason. By that point, both free agency and the NFL draft were in the rearview mirror. People had a fair gauge of what the rosters could end up looking like. Combine that with prior knowledge from the previous year, and early stabs were made on how 2018 will shake out.
That might be a bit early though. Teams haven’t really had a chance to mesh together, get a good feel for where they might be at. That’s why it’s often best to wait until during the later half of the preseason. They’ll have gotten some game action for their roster, but starters and reserves. While the games themselves don’t matter, it at least offers a picture.
Depending on performance along with the other knowledge, then a fair prediction can be made. That’s what the experts over at NFL Network chose to do. They got some of their best names involved from players to former scouts and asked them to predict the record of every team this season by division. So how did the Bears shake out in the NFC North?
Chicago Bears record predictions aren’t dripping with optimism
So the general consensus is the Bears will finish between 6-10 and 7-9. While that’s an improvement over the 5-11 record they had last season, it’s not the leap forward fans were hoping for either. In the end it’s still another losing season either way and would be Chicago’s fifth-straight dating back to 2014. So why the pessimism?

A few factors are likely in play. First is the track record the Bears have to this point. Few people are ever willing to take a leap of faith on a team that’s been losing for so long. Then there’s the unproven factor of Mitch Trubisky. The young QB was uneven as a rookie and is now entering a new offense under young head coach Matt Nagy.
Last but not least? The Bears are stuck in probably the toughest division in the NFL. The Minnesota Vikings were in the NFC championship last year and are Super Bowl favorites. Green Bay just got Aaron Rodgers back and the Detroit Lions were 9-7 last season. Overcoming a stacked deck like that is beyond difficult.
Combine it all together? Yeah those predictions sound fair but that doesn’t make them true. They still have to play the games, and anything can happen.
