NFL Insiders Believe Chicago Bears Might Pursue This Veteran QB

-

THE LOGIC OF IT

Kaepernick doesn’t turn 30 until November of this year. Though he’s been a distraction at times with his national anthem protests, teammates and coaches still swear by his leadership. When given the tools like he had from 2012 and 2013 in San Francisco, he proved he could win some football games. Having Jordan Howard, maybe Alshon Jeffery and a solid offensive line could help resurrect that old form.

It would also relieve the pressure on Pace in regards to the draft. At present it’s becoming clear he will have to use the #3 overall pick on a quarterback. By signing Kaepernick as a “bridge” option, it would allow Chicago to wait until the second or third rounds to get a young quarterback they can take time to develop. Meaning #3 could be reserved to get a potential stud for the defense.

This strategy may be the best one for the Bears because it gives John Fox a veteran under center who can help the team win immediately. Something a rookie is unlikely to do. He and his staff know they can’t afford another losing season if they want to keep their jobs. By signing Kaepernick and beefing up the defense, it presents the best possible option to win in 2017.
