New Projections Have Chicago Bears Losing #2 Pick In Painful Way

-

Five games remain on the schedule for the Chicago Bears. Their 3-9 record is good enough for them to hold the #2 overall pick in the upcoming 2023. That would be their highest selection not involving a trade up since 1970. They moved from #3 to #2 in 2017 to draft Mitch Trubisky. It would make for a juicy situation. GM Ryan Poles wants to build this team through the draft. So getting such a high selection would allow him to secure either a top prospect or possibly trade down for extra picks.

What people don’t know is whether Chicago will maintain control of that spot. There are many teams still in the standings with only three wins. Due to the strength of schedule tiebreakers, even one victory could drop the Bears to the bottom of the top 10. Losing their last five games offers their best chance to stay put. Yet even that might not be enough. According to ESPN, their latest draft projections have Chicago slipping to the #3 spot. Seattle takes over at #2 courtesy of the Denver Broncos having an identical record but a weaker schedule.

3. Chicago Bears (3-9)

Average draft position: 4.5

FPI chance to earn No. 1 pick: 3.6%

FPI chance to earn top-five pick: 73.9%

FPI chance to earn top-10 pick: 96.1%

The Chicago Bears still need some breaks.

Losing their remaining games is the easy part of this scenario. Of the five matchups, three are against what will be eventual playoff teams in Philadelphia, Buffalo, and Minnesota. The other two are against Green Bay and Detroit. Both already beat the Bears earlier in the season. So losing out is a strong possibility. It isn’t enough, though. They also need the Broncos and Los Angeles Rams to win at least one more game each to avoid tying records. Denver might be able to do it. Russell Wilson is a decent quarterback, and their defense is one of the NFL’s best. Los Angeles is another story. Matthew Stafford is done for the year, and their roster is banged up.

History says the Chicago Bears are almost always let down when they have to rely on others to help their cause. Still, there is good news to take in. Their odds of getting a top 10 pick are almost guaranteed, and they stand a reasonable chance of staying in the top five. That means, barring a complete blunder by Poles, they should end up with a good player when the dust settles next spring. What remains unknown is who it will be. Expectations are it’ll be a defensive or offensive lineman. Neither would be a surprise. Placement will dictate which.

Julia……only Packers fans sign up for idiotic jobs like the one you are promoting. Go to their pages and post away. I bet you get 15 sign up the very first day. Trust me on this.

Oh he did trade for Wilson and tried his damnest. Pete Carroll is the savior of nixing that deal. He's this bad in Denver with a better offense imagine the sh*t show he would be putting on in Chicago. Not only that but being without 2 more first round picks likely a couple more mid- high picks and having to deal with what would have been multiple years of guaranteed 45M contract no ifs, ands, or buts. Pace tried his hardest to give us a death sentence. Thank God the football gods stepped in to nix that one. And fans… Read more »
