Nate Davis Came To Chicago To Play With Justin Fields

-

Getting a nice payday was one of the primary reasons Nate Davis signed with the Chicago Bears. Nobody disputes that. However, he also made it clear during his first interview that he also came to play with Justin Fields. Davis sat down with Jeff Joniak to talk about his football journey and how he found his way to Chicago. He made it clear from the start that he is an admirer of Fields. Getting to block for him is one of the reasons he joined the Bears. This offense fits what he likes to do and this is the most talented quarterback he’s had the opportunity to play with.

It doesn’t end there. Davis stated it wasn’t only the natural ability that drew him to Fields. It was also the resiliency and leadership. He loves a quarterback that is willing to put everything on the line to win games, something Justin showed constantly last season. Davis got a taste of the leadership when they spoke for the first time after he signed. His excitement is pretty clear.

It will be an interesting adjustment for Davis. Most of his career was spent blocking for Ryan Tannehill, who is primarily a pocket passer. Fields’ tendency to improvise with his legs will take some adjusting.

Nate Davis is a perfect fit for the Bears.

This wide-zone offense demands athletic guards that can get after it in the run game. He has both qualities in abundance. Davis could get to the second level with ease and loved to finish plays with a little something extra. Most encouraging was his improvement as a pass protector. He became much better last season at picking up blitzes and stunts to keep the pocket intact. The Bears got themselves a quality starter for the next four or five seasons if Davis remains on his current trajectory.

The interesting part is what the Bears will do around him. They have no definitive right tackle or center at the moment. Lucas Patrick doesn’t appear to be the favorite to man the middle. Some believe Cody Whitehair will shift back to that spot. Teven Jenkins may move over to left guard. There are plenty of questions left for this team to answer. Still, it’s nice to know they will have some stability at right guard with Nate Davis. Fields will learn to appreciate him soon enough.

Riiiiight.

Pretty sure Davis is in Chicago because he wants to get paid. Period. He’s obviously not here to win because the Titans are closer to winning than Chicago.

RuMHaM will nestle your bacon in between his butt cheeks then put them back in your plate, without you ever knowing. RuMHaM is the destroyer of night cheese.

Football is not basketball, Doc. NFL football is played at an unreal level of speed and intensity. And teams are always looking for a competitive advantage. And yet, it was Patriots HC, Bill Belichick that famously said: “Do your job” — not, “Do both, your job and the other guy’s job — because he’s not a very good ‘scheme-fit.'” Football is a complex game, won by teams that consistently excel at doing two simple (but not easy) things: namely, blocking and tackling. If that team can add “takeaways” to its arsenal (see Eberflus’ H.I.T.S. principle) all the better — because… Read more »

I am waiting until after the third year to decide if this is a success or failure. I’m not as optimistic about Flus and Poles as most on here, but it takes awhile to rebuild a team. If we can get six wins this season I’d call that an improvement, but I expect no less than twelve in 24.
