Many Have Called For Trubisky’s Return

Wednesday will be one of the more anticipated days of the 2020 Chicago Bears season as they begin to prep for their Sunday Night game against the Green Bay Packers. The media and fans will learn who the team is leaning towards at quarterback to start against Green Bay in a must-win game. If embattled quarterback Mitchell Trubisky returns, he will have six games to prove himself one last time to the Bears and the league.

Matt Nagy indicated the Bears will consider Mitchell Trubisky returning to the starting quarterback position, but he and Nick Foles must get healthy first.

Said Nagy: "When you lose four games in a row, it's all on the table."

Trubisky could replace starter Nick Foles at quarterback as Foles is recovering from a hip injury suffered against the Vikings. Even before the hip injury, many were calling for Foles to be replaced as the Bears offense has struggled during the team’s four-game losing streak. Many blamed the veteran quarterback for the offensive struggles due to his inability to scramble and his interceptions. If Trubisky returns to face the Packers, he will make his first start since being benched in week three against the Falcons.

The Bears’ offense has been terrible in recent games as they have score touchdowns in just one of the last 12 quarters played. In the team’s previous game against the Vikings, the offense hit rock bottom as they produced 141 total yards. Any success the team has with Trubisky under center will make the fourth-year quarterback look like a hero, and if he can lead the team to victory, many other NFL teams will take notice.

If Nick Foles' injury is serious, which at the end of the game it could be, Mitchell Trubisky could be the starter on November 29th against the Packers. It could very well be the farewell tour for himself, Matt Nagy, and maybe even Ryan Pace the last six games of the year.

The Final Six Games Could Lead To A Pay Day

Although he only started three games, Trubisky helped the offense score touchdowns in all three games. Foles, on the other hand, has had two games in which the offense failed to score a touchdown and several other games in which the offense didn’t score touchdowns until late in the fourth quarter.

If he starts and plays well, there is a good chance Trubisky would remain the starter for the Bears’ final five games of the season. Outside of the two remaining games left with the Packers, the rest of the Bears’ opponents have been terrible on defense against the pass. The Lions, Texans, Vikings, and Jaguars all have defenses that rank in the bottom third of the league in passing yards allowed.

With how well the Bears defense has played this season, If Trubisky can generate any offensive production, the team has a good chance of winning these games but making the playoffs. A turnaround would allow the embattled quarterback to see a potential number of suitors in the offseason as he will be a free agent. Although not the case at the beginning of the year, with Matt Nagy struggling as a play-caller and giving up play-calling duties, teams will be more likely to take a chance on Trubisky.

Coming off the bench to lead his team to a late-season playoff run would get Trubisky several offers from other teams willing to give the 2017 second overall draft selection another chance to start. Furthermore, if the flaws that led to his early-season benching are gone, NFL teams would feel even more emboldened.

This scenario is only possible if Trubisky starts against the Packers and performs well for the remainder of the season. He has a great opportunity if he does return to the starting lineup as he can be the hero to a Bears season that has gone downhill since week seven. A productive month coupled with a playoff berth would make Trubisky a commodity in free agency.
