Mitch Trubisky Was Pissed Following Bears Win over Carolina

-

Mitch Trubisky admits anger at offense not being better to help defense

One of the staples of Mitch that became clear throughout training camp, practice and preseason was his competitiveness. Whether he was running the first-string or the scout team, he was always trying to get an edge over the defense. He wanted to win every rep. That is his nature. Keep in mind he threw 447 passes last year at North Carolina. That’s an average of 34.38 per game.

Through three weeks as starter in Chicago? He’s averaging 16 per game. That has to be frustrating for a competitor who wants the ball in his hands. It’s a credit to him that he hasn’t made it an issue and continues to play unselfishly. At the same time he admitted his anger at not being able to help more.

“We didn’t score [a touchdown] as an offense, and defense carried us so we kind of felt salty that we didn’t help out more.”

People don’t even need to read too much into his words. For a quarterback who is 2-1 as a starter this year, Trubisky did not look too happy during his post-game press conference.

Unfortunately this is the reality that Trubisky is trapped in. Head coach John Fox is in survival mode and is focused on winning games. He’s going to do things his way and his way is known for being ultra-conservative. That means running the ball, playing defense and not turning it over. It doesn’t offer a lot of chances for a young quarterback to grow.

This is a fear for many people. That Fox would marginalize Trubisky and put his development on the back burner just to win a few games that are meaningless in the long-term. It’s easy to understand why the rookie is upset. He wants to do more. They won’t let him.
