Mitch Trubisky Reportedly Delivers “Best” Practice As a Bear

-

The Chicago Bears were hoping their moves this offseason would light a fire under Mitch Trubisky. It’s still early, but signs indicate they’re getting the desired reaction. The 26-year old quarterback worked tirelessly during the offseason to get himself ready for 2020. This included fixing an imbalanced shoulder through training and going through personal drills with QB specialist Jeff Christiansen.

By most accounts, that work is paying off in practice thus far.

After a somewhat mild start on Day 1, Trubisky improved on Day 2. Yet those were apparently just a prelude to his third practice. According to Adam Hoge of NBC Sports who has covered him since he arrived back in 2017, he felt confident in making the statement that Thursday, August 20th may have been the best practice Trubisky has ever had.

“To the naked eye, Mitch Trubisky had one of his best training camp practices in a Bears uniform Thursday…Nagy emphasized the need for both quarterbacks to improve their accuracy in 7-on-7 drills and Trubisky only had one incompletion the entire session.

In fairness, the difficultly level of some of the throws can be debated and Nagy admitted Trubisky was late on some his passes. Without the benefit of coaches’ tape, it’s usually never as good as it looks live or as bad as it looks.

Still, Trubisky has improved in each practice this week. In particular, a tight-window throw to Riley Ridley up the middle and a great throw to tight end Eric Saubert for a touchdown stood out Thursday.”

Yet Mitch Trubisky couldn’t escape without a major blunder

Literally on the last play of drills, the Bears were working a goal line situation. It was first down with one yard to go. Trubisky rolled right but couldn’t find anybody open. So close to the end zone it should’ve been easy to just throw the ball away. Instead, the man committed an all-too-familiar blunder by running out of bounds for a “sack.” A mental error head coach Matt Nagy was not happy about.

This is a reminder that it’s important not to get caught up too much in these situations. Trubisky improving is a good thing. However, until he starts eliminated egregious mistakes that demonstrate lack of awareness like that? It’s hard to imagine how the Bears can hoist a Lombardi trophy at the end of this season.
