Mitch Trubisky refused to leave Bears practice facility during the bye

-

Just because Mitch Trubisky has been silent for the past couple of weeks doesn’t mean he’s deaf. He likely has heard a lot of the noise swirling around the Chicago Bears lately. Most of it involving repeated shots at him and the quarterback position in general. Chris Simms? Chris Long? Steve Smith Sr.? All of them took turns stating their belief that perhaps the time could be approaching for the Bears to make a change. They can’t afford to waste another generational defense on bad quarterback play.

Some players might be discouraged from hearing this sort of negativity. Doubt might creep into their minds. Do they really have what it takes? Trubisky doesn’t seem to be one of them. Head coach Matt Nagy appeared on WBBM News Radio for an interview to start the week of preparation for New Orleans. It was there he revealed that out of all the players on the roster, only one refused to leave the facilities during the bye for rest.

That was Trubisky.

“He was in here working out, every day he’s trying to get that (shoulder) stronger and stronger, so that’ll be the big question for us. We’ll see how it goes here, really this whole week, but we’re excited for him. We know every day helps us out to get him back, so we’ll see where it ends up going.”

Mitch Trubisky will not go down without a fight

People can give the kid a lot of grief for his inconsistent play on the field. One thing they’ll never be able to question though is his work ethic and desire. The guy strives every day to improve himself. While it hasn’t gone according to plan thus far, Trubisky is making it clear that this job belongs to him until the team says otherwise. To that end, he’s doing everything in his power to become a success. To silence all those doubters.

Hope is not lost. There is still time for him. Eleven games remain. If he can pick the offense off the mat and get it up to at least a reasonable status of productivity, that might be enough to at least buy him more time. Trubisky was starting to play better after the game against Washington. Unfortunately, he suffered his shoulder injury minutes into the Vikings game so his momentum was lost. That’s why this upcoming stretch against the Saints, Chargers, Eagles, and Lions could be the most crucial of his career.

If he gets the Bears through it with a winning margin? That could get a lot of people back on his side.
