Mitch Trubisky isn’t changing minds about him as a starting quarterback just yet. He has a lot of ground to make up before that happens. People know what they saw in 2019 and the first three quarters of last Sunday in Detroit. That being said, it seems his wild 4th quarter at least perked up a few eyebrows. That 15 minutes of football offered some hope that he might still have a chance.

Trubisky isn’t viewed as a normal bust. The guy went to a Pro Bowl after all. He led his team to the postseason and threw for 300 yards in a playoff game. There have been stretches of impressive play sprinkled amidst the mediocrity and awful. That is what makes him so frustrating. People still aren’t sure which one he is. With it being his fourth season, it should be clear by now.

That aside, Michael Florio of NFL.com is confident enough to predict the Bears QB has a solid afternoon against the New York Giants on Sunday.

“Heading into the season I thought Mitch Trubisky would be the first QB to lose the starting job this season. Now here I am in Week 2 talking him up as a sleeper. But Trubisky handled business against the Lions in Week 1 (he always handles business against Detroit) scoring nearly 25 fantasy points and finishing as the QB7.

He is gifted another strong matchup in Week 2 against the Giants, who have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to QBs since 2019 (20.77). That includes three touchdown passes to Ben Roethlisberger in Week 1 who was playing in his first game in nearly a year.”

Mitch Trubisky is as unpredictable as ever

Could Trubisky have a big day? Sure he can. The Giants defense isn’t a pushover but it’s hardly what one would call intimidating. If he gets similar protection to what he got in Detroit, then it can happen. The thing is nothing about this quarterback is predictable. He could just as easily drop three interceptions in the box score with an ugly sack fumble. This is why Bears fans no longer trust him. Nothing about his game is consistent.

So all anybody can do is sit back, hold their breath, and hope. Trubisky knows he’s still on thin ice in regards to his job security. He can’t afford many more letdowns. This is a game he and the Bears are expected to win.
