Mitch Trubisky is a young man who can be viewed as mature beyond his years. Most football players at his age of 25 would be at least a little rooted in personal interests. That being showcasing their talent to the world through personal stats and of course money. Every player is hoping to get that massive payday being great in the NFL can bring. Trubisky can’t be that much different, right?
Well, his answers to such questions certainly didn’t fall in that line. The quarterback made it clear he is not focused on passing yards or touchdowns whenever he goes into games. It’s all about wins and losses. Do whatever it takes to reach the playoffs and then try to win every game. Good answer. It went a step further though.
Trubisky was made aware of the massive new deal signed by Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. This inevitably would lead someone like him to think about his own contract which should come up in 2021, if not sooner. Is he thinking about that and how much does his desire to remain with the Bears factor into it?
“I think as long as I can play here in Chicago. I want to play this game as long as possible and I want to do it as long as I can here in Chicago. So I think we’re building something great here. I love the city, I love the fans, and I love where I live. I love coming to work at Halas Hall every day and I love my teammates. For me it’s just take it one day at a time and embrace the process. That’s the goal for sure.”
Mitch Trubisky aiming to do something almost no Bears QB has
Trubisky has already achieved several firsts in his Bears career. He’s tied for the youngest to ever throw six touchdowns in a game. Sid Luckman was 27 and Johnny Lujack was 24. He’s also the first to ever throw for 300 yards in a playoff game. Could he be the first in decades to achieve one other elusive prize? That being the ability to play at least 10 years in Chicago.

Keep in mind the Bears franchise has existed since 1919. A span of 100 years. In that span, only one quarterback has ever lasted on the roster for 10 years or longer. Just one. That was Luckman himself who was there from 1939 to 1950. Jay Cutler and Ed Brown are the next closest at seven with Jim McMahon and Jim Harbaugh each going six.
For a little context, since 1956 the Green Bay Packers have had three quarterbacks go beyond the 10-year barrier. They are of course Bart Starr, Brett Favre, and Aaron Rodgers. That doesn’t count Lynn Dickey who went nine. It’s little wonder they’ve owned the rivalry for as long as they have. Trubisky is hoping to finally stop the turnstile and is committed to doing so.
