Mitch Trubisky Goes Off in the First Half Against the Redskins

-

Mitch Trubisky came into Monday Night Football in Week 3 with tons of questions. People were on his case from the start of the season. No surprise given his poor performance against the Green Bay Packers in the opener and average game the next week in Denver. If he couldn’t deliver even a modest game against a leaky Washington Redskins team, then people would know for sure that something was seriously wrong with the 25-year old.

It didn’t start well. Trubisky looked inaccurate on a number of early throws, showing the typical jitters that seem to accompany him in primetime games. Thankfully with help from the defense and some excellent play calling by Matt Nagy, he quickly found his rhythm. By the end of the first half, the Bears QB had gone 20-of-23 for 173 yards and three touchdown passes. It’s the first time he’s thrown multiple TDs in a game since the division-clinching game against Green Bay last December.

Two of them were gimmes to a wide open Taylor Gabriel on goal-to-go situations. The last one though might’ve been one of the best of his career. After taking the snap he couldn’t find anyone. Trubisky stepped up in the pocket, evaded to his right and fired a bomb to Gabriel down the right sideline. It was placed perfectly and the receiver got just enough of his body inbounds for the third TD, extending the Bears to a commanding 28-0 lead.

Mitch Trubisky will certainly get a confidence boost from this one

The Bears still have business to attend to. The game isn’t over yet and things can happen if they’re not careful. Still, it’s nice to see Trubisky get himself off the canvas after the way things started. He’d taken a beating from the media (this writer included) for his poor start. If he couldn’t deliver against a bad defense, then it would become clear that something was seriously wrong. Instead he’s having his best game in a long time.
