The Chicago Bears are in the middle of one of the most unique scheduling issues ever. After defeating the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night last week, they were given just 85 hours to rest and recuperate before gearing up to face the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. This is far from ideal because it doesn’t give injured players much time at all to heal before the game. This issue is especially problematic for Mitch Trubisky
The Bears quarterback was the subject of a late hit on Sunday that resulted in his right throwing shoulder being injured. It occurred when safety Harrison Smith smashed into him after he’d already slid into the turf. The play drew a flag but the damage was done. Trubisky came up wincing in obvious pain.
I try to be fair in these situations. People say Trubisky shorted his next throw to Cohen following the hit from Smith. Watching it, though true we should take it into context. He was on his back foot and Cohen was clearly covered. It looked like, to me, it was on purpose. #Bears pic.twitter.com/llcG3zC4KE

He finished the game, to his credit. However, he soon popped up on the injury report and has already missed one practice. Head coach Matt Nagy said he’s “cautiously optimistic” that Trubisky might be able to play but made it clear the team is fully prepared to go with backup Chase Daniel if necessary.

While that may be fine for some, it apparently doesn’t sound like a plan to Trubisky himself.
Mitch Trubisky is far from resigned to the idea of not playing in Detroit
If people haven’t figured out by now that Trubisky is a relentless competitor, they haven’t been paying attention. He wants to win every game and every snap. If that means doing so with a little pain, then so be it. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported that the 24-year old isn’t backing down in his desire to play regardless of the risk.
“Less than 48 hours before kickoff on Thanksgiving at Ford Field, coach Matt Nagy labeled Trubisky day to day with a right shoulder injury suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s victory over the Vikings. Trubisky was injured when he slid at the end of a third-down run and was hit late by safety Harrison Smith…
…The Bears are preparing as if they will be without Trubisky in Detroit, though he is fighting to play, sources said.”
David Chao, a former longtime NFL doctor believes the injury he sustained was a sprain to the shoulder, specifically around the rotator cuff area. It’s painful and can be difficult to play through. He personally believes the odds favor Daniel getting the start and the Bears giving Trubisky 13 days to rest before their game against the New York Giants next week.
That may sound logical to most, but for a gamer like Trubisky? That just sounds like 13 days of torture.
