Mitch Trubisky Admits Outside Criticism Has Gotten to Him

-

Mitch Trubisky isn’t a happy man these days. His Chicago Bears have lost four-straight games, are in danger of being eliminated from the playoff race with half the season still to go, and know that he is a big reason why. After delivering one of the best seasons a Bears quarterback has ever had in 2018, the 25-year old watched the honeymoon period come to an abrupt end in the very first game of 2019. Through eight games, seven of which he’s started, he has five touchdown passes.

Everything from his passing yards per game to his quarterback rating have plummetted drastically. Former players in the media are begging head coach Matt Nagy to implement a simpler system that gets him outside the pocket and use his legs more. The thing is Trubisky himself hasn’t seemed willing to take off and run like he used to. Is it because he’s being told not to? Is he reluctant because of his previous injuries? Nobody knows for sure.

What is clear beyond anything else is that the kid looks like he’s completely lost his confidence. That swagger he played with last year is gone. He looks scared, tentative, and completely overwhelmed by his situation. It would appear his mental toughness isn’t what people thought. That much was made clear when the quarterback admitted quite openly that the loud criticisms from the outside have really gotten to him lately.

Mitch Trubisky looks and feels like a lost cause

Not a lot of quarterbacks would willingly admit to something like this. It probably didn’t do Trubisky any favors doing so because it only reinforces the belief that his mind is completely shot. He’s going through the motions at this point hoping things will turn around rather than making them turn around like a good quarterback would. For all his hard work and ability, it’s apparent that too much needs to be perfect in order for Trubisky to have success.

The Bears have done all they can to help. They put good talent around. Put him in a quarterback-friendly system with a strong motivator for his head coach. It’s hard not to feel like even an average quarterback would be having more success. That is why most believe that Trubisky will lose his job when the season concludes. That is unless he somehow finds a way to change a lot of minds over the next two months.
