Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace Say People Are Sleeping on This New Addition

-

Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace started off the Chicago Bears training camp season in classic fashion. Their first press conference before practices begin was held down in Decatur, Illinois. For those who don’t know, Decatur was the original location the Bears played at before George Halas bought the team and moved them to Chicago. In order to celebrate the 100th season, the team wanted to get things started off with a tribute to where it all began.

However, once the questions started it was all business. Most of the early ones were surrounding the kicker position. Not a surprise considering the Bears haven’t yet picked one. The competition remains ongoing between Eddy Pineiro and Elliott Fry. Not only that, but Pace even hinted that the team has multiple eyes scouring the waiver wire for possible cuts from other teams. No job is safe right now.

However, on a lighter note, both men went out of their way to insist that both the media and rest of Bears nation continue to sleep on one of the notable additions made this offseason. That being running back Mike Davis. They feel he’s had a tremendous series of practices and will have a far bigger role in the offense than people realize.

Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace targeted Mike Davis for a reason

The thing to remember here is for the first time Davis isn’t staring down the barrel of a no-win scenario. In San Francisco, he was stuck behind Carlos Hyde whom the 49ers were trying to establish as the next Frank Gore. So his opportunities were limited. Then when he got to Seattle, the Seahawks drafted Rashard Penny in the 1st round. Thus his chances to get significant action were curbed.

Chicago offers him the first true opportunity to prove he deserves a heavier workload. Tarik Cohen will get his special package but the only other threat at the moment is David Montgomery. It’s true the Bears traded up to get the Iowa State running back, but they don’t have plans to just hand him the job. He has to earn it. Davis knows this is his chance and apparently has been practicing with that in mind.

Davis averaged 4.6 yards per carry last season for Seattle and also caught 34 passes. He may not be a household name, but that doesn’t mean he can’t play.
