Watch Luke Getsy Bring Peyton Manning Out Of His Seat Monday Night

-

The Chicago Bears offense put on a clinic Monday night in Foxborough. They came only ten yards shy of 400 on the night, scoring 33 points in a 33-14 beatdown of the New England Patriots. Nobody on the planet saw it coming. Every expert predicted a Patriots win. It wasn’t hard to see why. The Bears had lost three in a row. New England won back-to-back games in blowout fashion. They were rolling. They were at home. Then they forgot they still had to play the game. Chicago reminded them, and nobody loved it more than Peyton Manning.

The Hall of Fame quarterback has a long, colorful history with the Patriots. They cost him two precious chances at a Super Bowl in 2003 and 2004. He’s never had a great love for the team, so one can imagine he was rooting for the Bears. That much was evident late in the first half. Chicago trailed 14-10. Justin Fields had them in Patriots territory, trying to retake the lead. Manning then saw something. New England showed blitz. Fields saw it too, and made a check at the line.

Manning knew immediately what the call was and what was about to happen. Fields hit Khalil Herbert on a quick screen to the left, and he went untouched for a 25-yard score. That brought Manning out of his seat, giving the nod to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy for “the perfect play call.”

Peyton Manning compliments are the best one can get.

Few people on the planet know more about football than the all-time great quarterback. He has studied so much film his entire life. He understands every little intricacy of the game. So when he calls something the perfect play call, that is the ultimate nod of approval. It was a feather in the cap for Getsy, who had by far the best game of his young career as the Bears offensive coordinator. His game plan was excellent, and the players executed it so well.

What stands out about him the most is how he works to his players’ strengths. That was always a point of contention with Matt Nagy. He never did enough to utilize what his players did best. Getsy is all about that. It’s why they run the ball so well. The improvement Fields has made also can’t be ignored. Peyton Manning worked with some excellent offensive coaches during his career. So his praise of Getsy is a welcome sign.
