Lions Fans Are Now Talking Themselves Into Hiring Matt Nagy

-

Chicago Bears fans should consider themselves fortunate. At least they aren’t Detroit Lions fans. Things have reached such a point for them that they’re feeling optimistic about some of the most baffling things these days. Decades of mostly losing football will do that do you. Their latest acid trip seems to involve their offensive coordinator position. One that was recently vacated after Anthony Lynn was fired. Head coach Dan Campbell needs to find a replacement and some who follow the team think they have the solution. Matt Nagy.

Yes. This is not a joke. We’re being dead serious right now. The head coach that produced four years of bottom 10 offense in Chicago is viewed as a viable offensive coordinator hopeful for the Lions. That feels almost impossible to believe. Yet Vito Chirco of Sports Illustrated pleaded his case. He believes that Nagy’s work in Kansas City with Alex Smith and his early work with Mitch Trubisky in 2018 showcased his potential as a coordinator.

With proper structure under Campbell, he can help elevate the Lions offense.

“Now a free agent, he might just be a fit for the offensive coordinator vacancy in Detroit.

No, he wouldn’t be a home-run hire, especially after seeing what transpired in Chicago over the last three years.

But, if Lions head man Dan Campbell could get Nagy under control and get him to play his style of football (with a heavy emphasis on the ground game), there could be a match between Nagy and the Detroit-based NFL franchise.”

Matt Nagy came into Chicago with a lot of promises about how he’d fix the offense. In fairness, the man had some really creative ideas. The problem was always he could never figure out what their identity was supposed to be. Everything was so disorganized all the time. That is why the Bears were often so easy to stop. Yet for some reason, Detroit fans are convincing themselves that the organization was the problem, not the coach.

Here is hoping they get their wish. Few things would please Chicago fans more than watching a division rival endure the pain and suffering of watching that man call offense on Sundays. It would be the ultimate case of an organization not learning from the mistakes of others. Classic Lions, to be honest.
