Likeliest Nick Foles Trade Destination Projected For The Bears

-

Football will never stop being weird. That is one of the reasons fans love it so much. Just when they think things can’t get crazier, something unexpected happens. The Chicago Bears know their time with Nick Foles is drawing to a close. It was evident even last season, but circumstances didn’t allow them to trade him. Now with his contract more manageable and the arrival of Trevor Siemian, GM Ryan Poles openly admitted the team will explore trade options.

The tricky part in situations like this is always the same: finding a buyer. Thus far, the Bears haven’t received an offer they like (or at all). Timing is often crucial in these situations. The team doesn’t have to feel urgency to get a deal done. They aren’t pressed for cap space. So they can wait until another team feels Foles is a favorable option compared to what they have. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has a good idea of which team that will end up being.

And what the Bears will likely get in return.

“Jacksonville Jaguars Get: QB Nick Foles

Chicago Bears Get: 2022 sixth-round pick (No. 180)

The Jacksonville Jaguars are the most logical landing spot for Foles. Jacksonville has 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence under center and could use a veteran mentor behind him. Current backup C.J. Beathard has 12 games of starting experience, but Foles has 56 regular-season starts, one Pro Bowl and a Lombardi Trophy on his resume.

Foles also has experience with new Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson. He would be a tremendous presence in the quarterback room as Pederson introduces his schemes and concepts to Lawrence this offseason.”

Nick Foles proved again last season that he can be a more than capable backup. With Justin Fields and Andy Dalton injured, he led the Bears to a surprising comeback victory over the Seahawks in Seattle. So it isn’t like he’s dead weight, far from it. If anybody knows the value he brings to a football team, it’s Doug Pederson. A few years ago, there were even rumblings that the former Eagles head coach didn’t want him to leave in 2019.

A reunion makes perfect sense. While Foles’ first foray to Jacksonville ended in ugly fashion two years ago, he’ll be a straight backup to Trevor Lawrence this time around. A clear hierarchy. There is no doubt he can offer the promising former #1 pick better advice than C.J. Beathard or any other backup. Jacksonville also has four projected picks in the 6th round. So they can easily afford to make the deal.
