Khalil Mack’s Brother Will Sign With Bears (and He’s Pretty Good)

-

Having Khalil Mack by himself on the Chicago Bears defense is a great thing. So what could happen if the Bears have two Macks? They’re going to find out. Shortly after the conclusion of the 2020 NFL draft, it was announced that the team had signed Ledarius Mack as an undrafted free agent. He is Khalil’s younger brother and attempting to carve his own legacy in football.

Ledarius is such an interesting story. He didn’t play a snap of football in high school, preferring to focus on basketball. However, no opportunities materialized so he switched to football and walked on the JUCO circuit. This got him noticed by Buffalo, Khalil’s school, and he was eventually signed. After starting out as an inside linebacker, he switched to defensive end in 2018. He posted two sacks his first year, but took a significant jump forward in 2019 with seven.

His best days could be ahead of him.

Khalil Mack will be happy for another familiar face

Mack’s arrival puts a cap on an exciting overhaul of the outside linebacker position for the Bears. It started with then signing Robert Quinn in free agency. Then they traded to secure the rights to talented Tulsa standout Trevis Gipson. Now they add Ledarius as a chaser. While he’s a bit undersized, he’s shown the kind of quickness and lower body strength necessary to get under blocks to the quarterback. He’s still just scratching the surface.

No doubt his older brother is thrilled with the opportunity to play with him and teach him the ropes. If his upward trend continues as it has, this won’t just be a legacy signing meant to keep their superstar happy. Ledarius could well end up playing on Sundays.
