Jeff Joniak Saying the Refs “Blow” During Packer Game is Absolute Joy

-

Chicago Bears fans didn’t need long on Sunday to grow fed up with the refs after their awful penalty call on Cordarrelle Patterson during a tackle on a punt that should’ve given his team the ball. This considering the Green Bay Packers return man never signaled a fair catch. Instead, the refs call a phantom unnecessary roughness penalty, the Packers get great field position and immediately go down and score a touchdown. It set the tone for the entire game. So one can imagine Bears play-by-play man Jeff Joniak was less than patient with the zebras for the rest of the afternoon.

That annoyance finally reached the boiling point late in the 4th quarter. On 4th and 10 from the Green Bay 49, Mitch Trubisky tried to find Allen Robinson deep over the middle. The pass was incomplete. However, the refs suddenly announced they were reviewing the play for possible pass interference. When watching the replay, it becomes rather obvious that the Packers defensive back is draped over Robinson for a number of seconds, even before the pass is even thrown.

While any sane person would call that interference, there was absolutely no way the higher-ups in New York would have the guts to actually overturn that call. So when the announcement came in that the play stood, Joniak had seen enough and his reaction was positively priceless. McNeil & Perkins on 670 The Score caught wind of it.

Jeff Joniak remains an absolute Bears treasure

Everybody who is a Bears fan already knew that Joniak is one of the best in the business at what he does. An absolute gem who is so easy to listen to. Some of his radio calls have long since passed into legend. This can be added to that long list. Not only is it hilarious for all the obvious reasons, the fact is he’s speaking the truth. It isn’t like he was calling out the refs for doing their jobs. He did it because it was the exact opposite.

Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.

The only shame about all this is fans only get two more games of him on Sundays before they have to wait 10 months to hear it again.
