The Chicago Bears thought they finally had a shot to take down the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Instead, it was another blowout loss that added to their ever-growing legacy of them over the past 30 years. While the game was tightly contested in the first half, Green Bay pulled away in the second thanks to their domination of the line of scrimmage. Chicago didn’t help any with their vast array of mental mistakes. In truth, one team looked prepared and focused. The other did not. Jaquan Brisker admits he almost saw it coming.
The second-year safety is never shy about speaking his mind. He had plenty to say about the 38-20 loss after the game. What stood out the most was his assessment that the Bears had this loss coming. He explained why to Josh Schrock of NBC Sports Chicago.
“I feel like we needed this. I feel like we might have been too high, and we just needed to get slapped in the face one good time. We needed this, especially in the first game, early. The type of team we are, the type of players we have, what we built, we needed this—got to be more disciplined.
“We needed this. I felt like we were riding too high.”
There was plenty of optimism around the Bears during training camp and the preseason. Their new roster featured lots of talent headlined by D.J. Moore, Tremaine Edmunds, Darnell Wright, and others. Everybody started talking lots of trash about the Packers and how this team was destined for an instant rebound. Brisker seemed to understand such thinking by this team was far from earned. The Packers reminded them.
Now, the real work begins.

Jaquan Brisker isn’t afraid to tell it like it is.
Nothing can sink a professional sports team faster than hubris. The Bears got ahead of themselves. They went in assuming their improved talent and lack of Aaron Rodgers would carry the day. Green Bay proved that it takes far more than that to beat them. The sooner this young team understands that the better off they’ll be. Sometimes, an early rude awakening can be beneficial. We’ll find out if that’s the case next week. Chicago will head to Tampa Bay for a showdown against the Buccaneers.
If Jaquan Brisker is right, this team will look far different. They’ll be more aggressive, make fewer mistakes, fly to the football, and play closer to the level they know they can. Show. Don’t tell. That is the way fans will react moving forward. They’ve heard enough talking. If this team wants respect, they must earn it. Brisker has at least made strong contributions. He had seven tackles and a pass deflection in the opener. Now it’s about creating more impact plays. Not just from him but from everybody.
