Insider Suggests Matt Nagy May Not Be In Chicago Much Longer

The Chicago Bears are 3-1 at the quarter mark of the NFL season. Yet based on recent reactions from fans, it doesn’t feel that way. Why is that? Most of it is the ongoing miseries surrounding the Bears offenses which again looked completely outclassed by a good defense on Sunday, managing just three points against the Indianapolis Colts until the final two minutes of the game. This has put a ton of heat on head coach Matt Nagy.

Why? It isn’t the first time Bears fans have seen this. Dating back to opening night against the Green Bay Packers in 2019, the offense has delivered a number of clunkers like that. So often they looked sloppy, out of sync, and uncertain of what they’re trying to do or even who they’re supposed to be. Nagy was able to hide behind the struggles of Mitch Trubisky for most of that time.

Now that he’s shifted to a quarterback he helped handpick in Nick Foles? The heat on him has intensified rapidly. It’s gotten to a point where people are no longer buying him as any sort of offensive savior in Chicago. Expectations are plummeting fast.

Where it gets really interesting is there seems to be a belief in the NFL community this is his last season. Insider Benjamin Allbright hinted at this when asked about head coach vacancies going into next offseason.

Is Matt Nagy really under that much heat already?

Allbright doesn’t just say this stuff for the fun of it. His sources in the NFL have routinely proven to be solid. So when he mentions Nagy isn’t on stable ground in Chicago, it’s something to take serious note of. Bears chairman George McCaskey didn’t seem ready to commit to either him or GM Ryan Pace beyond this season. He stated multiple times the objective should be to win.

Thus far they’ve done that at 3-1, but warning signs have been there. They needed two huge comebacks to knock off Detroit and Atlanta. They barely held on against a bad Giants team as well. This team could easily be 0-4 if not for some huge breaks. Combine that with the ongoing offensive issues? One can imagine McCaskey is frustrated. Nagy is in danger of being yet another head coach who wasted the prime years of a great defense because he couldn’t put together even a passable offense.

Despite his leadership qualities, that failure could end up being his career epitaph in Chicago. Odds are the next set of four games may decide his fate.
