The Aaron Rodgers situation up in Green Bay has most Bears fans reaching for their popcorn lately. Watching Packer fans squirm for the past month has been quite entertaining. Facing uncertainty at the quarterback position is not something they’re used to and they don’t like it. Maybe they’re getting a taste of what Chicago has gone through for so many years.

Putting that aside, the Rodgers saga is a fascinating one. Nobody is sure how it will end. Some think he’ll eventually cave and return to the team. Perhaps with a lucrative new extension. Others think Green Bay may eventually have to trade him. If it is the latter, then the discussion becomes obvious. Where?

Here is a list of potential teams that could be involved along with two key trails of thought. Why that team makes sense for a trade and whether or not the Bears would want that to be the destination.

Aaron Rodgers has plenty of suitors but who do the Bears want?

Denver Broncos (+220)

Outside of Green Bay itself, Denver seems to be the heavy favorite. They have a full inventory of draft picks to offer in return and the necessary cap space to absorb his contract. They have an ascending offensive line, talented receivers, and a Vic Fangio-coached defense. They’re also in the AFC. So it appeals to both parties.

Do the Bears want this? Yes

As stated above, the Broncos are an AFC team. So the only time Chicago could conceivably face Rodgers is the Super Bowl. The Bears won’t play them this year and likely won’t again until 2023. Will Rodgers even still be playing by that point in time? Best of all, Denver is in no position to offer a decent quarterback in return. The only options being Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock.

Las Vegas Raiders (+600)

Jon Gruden has always had a thing for grabbing aging veterans with big names. One can only imagine what he might do for a chance to coach Aaron Rodgers. Las Vegas has the assets to make a deal happen and also, like Denver, is an AFC team. They have some good receivers and a top running back. Their offensive line though has become a question mark.

Do the Bears want this? No

While Rodgers leaving for the AFC is a good thing, there are multiple problems with this outcome. For one, the Bears play the Raiders in Week 5 of this season. That isn’t idea. Even worse, Las Vegas can offer something valuable in return. A quarterback. Derek Carr isn’t Rodgers but he’s a solid player and also just 30-years old.

New Orleans Saints (+1000)

The Saints have every reason to want Rodgers. They have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. A strong offensive line and one of the best receivers in the game. Their defense is also pretty good. This team is still capable of pursuing a Super Bowl. The problem is they’re in the NFC and also have a boatload of salary cap problems.

Do the Bears want this? No

It isn’t just about the Saints being an NFC team. The idea of pairing Rodgers together with Sean Payton, arguably the best offensive mind in the NFL? That is absolutely terrifying. Those two could run the conference for years to come. Presuming they find a miracle way to make the money work out.

Washington Football Team (+1400)

It was rather surprising how passive the Football Team was this offseason. Ryan Fitzpatrick was their only notable move at quarterback. Considering how talented their roster is, it seems like such a waste. From Rodgers’ perspective? He would like going there. Ron Rivera is a great coach and he’d have a tremendous receiver in Terry McLaurin waiting.

Do the Bears want this? Yes

This might seem counterintuitive but in truth Washington isn’t a terrible place to send him. The Bears don’t play them for another couple of years. They’re run by one of the worst owners in the business. Their offensive line has a lot of question marks. While it isn’t the ideal landing spot, it is better than other options on the table.
