How Brian Urlacher Used Chicago’s Own Billboards To Troll The Bears’ Indiana Stadium Threat

-

Brian Urlacher has made his opinion known on the Chicago Bears stadium situation. He stated that he feels they belong at Soldier Field. It has been their home for decades, serving as the backdrop to some of the greatest moments in franchise history. There is no reason to leave it. Still, if they must, then at the very least, they should find a way to stay in Chicago. The city is where they’ve always played and where they belong. So you can imagine how the Hall of Fame linebacker felt when news broke that the team had shifted its focus away from Arlington Heights or Chicago to Hammond, Indiana.

Leaving the city is one thing, but the state as well? Aren’t they the pride and joy of Illinois? Something about it just feels wrong. Apparently, Urlacher decided to take advantage of the situation to get a little extra publicity at the Bears’ expense. It is common knowledge about city residents and commuters that Urlacher is the face of RESTORE Hair, a prominent business built on helping balding men restore their hairlines. They decided to use one of their billboard advertisements to troll the Bears.

Nobody can say Brian Urlacher can’t spot an opportunity.

The linebacker was always one of the smartest and most aware players on the field during his heyday. It’s only natural that he would know when there was an opening to make a play. Not only is the billboard stunt a great dig at the Bears for their will-they-won’t-they stadium nonsense, but it’s great publicity for the business he supports. A win-win. Urlacher has continued supporting the Bears in his usual media appearances. He believes strongly that this latest generation, led by quarterback Caleb Williams and head coach Ben Johnson, could be the one to put the franchise back on top.

The positive vibes don’t extend to the people at the top. Team president Kevin Warren and owner George McCaskey have been under fire for their poor handling of the entire stadium process. They purchased land before putting in the necessary research on what it takes to build a new stadium. They dithered back and forth on different locations after purchasing that land and have flip-flopped constantly on what they want from the state regarding property taxes and infrastructure support.

A conclusion by the end of 2026 now feels unlikely.

The Bears are trapped in a mudpit. They haven’t been able to advance legislation that would get the necessary votes in the Illinois House and Senate. Conversely, their Indiana push has also met with problems. Not only are locals starting to resist the idea of a stadium in the region, but the actual land the team wants to build on is heavily protected with environmental legislation. Whichever direction the Bears choose to push will take considerable time to navigate. It feels like they’ve been trying to find the quickest route that would allow them to start building this year. That idea feels all but dead.

One thing is certain. Brian Urlacher is probably glad he’s not playing anymore. He was around in the early 2000s when the Bears bumbled their way through the Soldier Field renovations. It wasn’t an enjoyable experience and seemed to affect the team’s play during that period. He can only imagine what this circus must be like for current players. Johnson deserves plenty of credit for keeping them focused on the objective.
