All of the focus for the Chicago Bears is their search for new coordinators. Matt Eberflus lost Alan Williams to a resignation and had to fire Luke Getsy. Now, he must spend the coming weeks trying to replace both. However, the job won’t end there. Chicago also has several key position coaching jobs open as well. They fired quarterback coach Andrew Janocko, wide receiver coach Tyke Tolbert, and running back coach David Walker. Filling those three spots is almost as vital as offensive coordinator for the head coach.
The good thing is thanks to a massive string of layoffs around the league as teams shuffle their staffs, some notable names have become free agents. If the Bears move quickly enough, they could land some highly credible assistants to their ranks. Here are the ones Eberflus would be wise to call.
Matt Eberflus has a big opportunity to land some quality assistants.
Quarterbacks – Ken Dorsey
His tenure in Buffalo ended on a sour note, even though it wasn’t entirely fair. Somebody could hire Dorsey as an offensive coordinator this cycle. If they don’t, the Bears absolutely must pounce on him for quarterbacks coach. Not only was he a former quarterback himself, but he’s helped oversee the ascent of both Cam Newton and Josh Allen as NFL stars since he got into coaching in 2013. Dorsey was there for Newton’s best seasons and was instrumental in Allen’s development. If Chicago is leaning toward drafting somebody with that #1 pick, having someone like Dorsey to guide him would be huge.

Wide receivers – Edgar Bennett
This one is cheating slightly since it isn’t clear if any member of the Las Vegas Raiders staff is “available.” I figured it was fair game since Antonio Pierce is actively interviewing with other organizations. Bennett is a former running back for Green Bay and Chicago. After starting his coaching career at that same position, the Packers soon discovered he had an affinity for wide receivers. He was instrumental in developing Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Jordy Nelson, and Hunter Renfrow. There is no question he would be an instant asset as Matt Eberflus looks to enhance the passing game.
Running backs – Chad Morton
Pete Carroll brought Morton to Seattle in 2017, where he has served as their running backs coach ever since. In that time, he’s done some truly impressive work. He helped get 1,000-yard seasons out of guys like Chris Carson and Kenneth Walker. He played the position himself for several years in the NFL and has experience coaching in that Shanahan/McVay style. It appears Eberflus is aiming for somebody like that. Morton has the background and track record necessary for the job.
