Former Colleague Absolutely ROASTS Colin Cowherd For His Justin Fields Take

-

Any sports fans should know the name Colin Cowherd these days. He’s been a sports media personality for the past couple of decades, primarily on the radio. His profile truly began rising with ESPN in the 2000s and would remain popular for over a decade before moving to Fox Sports, where he established his long-running show, The Herd. One consistent thing about Cowherd is his tendency to fire off hot-takes about anything and everything, no matter how inflammatory or off-base they might be.

He was up to his old tricks a couple of weeks ago when he decided to poke Chicago Bears fans by declaring Justin Fields is already a bust. This comes on top of his reported sources saying the current regime in Chicago isn’t sold on Fields as a franchise quarterback. Needless to say, this angered Bears fans. They felt the comments were based on incomplete or outright erroneous information. One person isn’t surprised. Dan Le Batard, another form ESPN radio personality, crossed paths with Cowherd while there several times.

He went on his own radio show and decided to call Cowherd out for his blatantly obvious cry for attention.

Le Batard is right on the money about Colin Cowherd.

His job isn’t to discuss sports news. It is to generate buzz. Few fanbases are better for that than Chicago. They’re large, passionate, and touchy about their quarterback situation. It’s a perfect target. Everybody knows the Bears have suffered through the longest QB drought in NFL history. They haven’t had a star at the position since the 1940s. Jim McMahon, Erik Kramer, and Jay Cutler all had limited success but never became true franchise guys. The hope is Justin Fields can finally break that cycle.

By declaring him a bust even before his third season, Colin Cowherd knew it would generate a reaction. Le Batard was right on the money for calling him out on that. The truth is we don’t know who Fields is. He’s not a bust. His 2022 season already made that clear. Busts don’t set NFL records for rushing by a quarterback. The issue now is determining what level Fields can reach as a draft pick.

  • Disappointment
  • Decent
  • Hit
  • Home run

If things progress as hoped, he will likely fall somewhere into the middle two categories by the end of this season. Cowherd won’t have much to say by then.
