Ex-Super Bowl Champ Sees Surprisingly High Ceiling For 2023 Chicago Bears

-

Managing expectations is always the hard part for Chicago Bears fans. They want to believe their team is capable of going all the way every year. However, reality must assert itself at some point. The fact is this team was 3-14 last year. GM Ryan Poles tore the roster down, knowing it was too old and expensive ever to have a shot at sustained success. He needed to rebuild it from the ground up, focusing on stacking young talent through the draft. Early signs are promising. Still, they have to start proving it on the field.

Nobody knows exactly how far this retooled roster can go this upcoming season. Some think they’ll double their win total from last year, showing progress but still another good off-season away from serious playoff contention. Others believe the Bears are closer than they appear. Former Super Bowl champion Shaun O’Hara isn’t ready to declare this team a contender. However, he explained on NFL Network that they can have a legitimate playoff run if things tilt their way.

The Chicago Bears have no reason to fear this season.

Yes, they have flaws in their roster. The pass rush is still a legitimate concern. Nobody knows what to expect from the reshuffled offensive line, and uncertainty remains about Justin Fields’ ceiling as a passer. On the flip side, the Bears seem to be facing a weaker division this season following the departure of Aaron Rodgers. The overall schedule itself doesn’t seem overly daunting. If they can survive one or two tough stretches, it isn’t crazy to think they can sneak their way into a wild card berth.

It’s not like this organization doesn’t know about quick turnarounds. They’ve done it several times in the past. Look at their 2001, 2005, and 2018 seasons for evidence. One could argue this 2023 version has the best chance because they have the most talented quarterback. Surprisingly, this may hinge on how much better the Chicago Bears’ defense is, not the offense. A weird feeling, to be sure. As always, the only thing fans can do is wait and see. This team never lacks surprises. A 10-7 run would certainly qualify.
