Even Former Chiefs Are Taking Shots At Matt Nagy Now

-

Matt Nagy is catching punches from every direction these days. Most of them come from either Chicago Bears fans or the national media. Not that they aren’t earned. His failure to build on his promising first season in 2018 will go down as the biggest disappointment this organization has experienced in many years. Nagy made a lot of promises and failed to deliver on most of them.

The reputation he brought with him from Kansas City appears to have been shattered. Then again, it’s fair to wonder if the reputation was ever deserved to begin with. There were rumblings as far back as 2018 that some Chiefs players were relieved he was gone. Fast forward to this week and it appears there is no love lost as former right tackle Mitchell Schwartz had no qualms about firing a shot at his former offensive coordinator.

Or rather two shots in one tweet.

Remember that Schwartz worked with Nagy for two seasons.

Kansas City made the playoffs both times and had plenty of success offensively. For him to basically call the coach’s system inflexible says a lot. Not to mention the extra dig on Nagy’s constant tendency to not declare who is or isn’t starting because of “competitive advantage.” Something that has worked out great for him this year with the Bears sitting at 4-8. It is hard not to laugh at how easy of a target Matt Nagy has become.

His entire approach has reeked of a man who is out of his depth. When things started to go wrong, he didn’t roll with the punches and make adjustments. He clung to what he knows. Constantly trying to make the Chiefs system work despite not having the right personnel for it. Hence why it didn’t seem to change much regardless of who’s playing quarterback.

Combine this with his frustrating press conference where he almost never gives a straight answer on anything? It is hardly surprising people turned against him. How fitting that Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, a team he is 1-6 against, might be his last stand. One last reminder on how he never seemed to have his priorities in the right place.
