Chicago Bears fans undoubtedly fought down the urge to vomit when news came out that Eddy Pineiro had suffered a knee injury while working out at Halas Hall. Here the team is. It finally finds a kicker who can deliver when asked and right after his biggest game as a pro he gets hurt. Is it truly the Curse of Robbie Gould? All people could do was wait and hope that the ailment wasn’t as serious. It would come down to whether he made the trip to Washington with the team on Sunday.
Video soon emerged on Bears Instagram that the team was heading for the airport. Among their number was Pineiro, packed and ready. Not only that but he appeared to be walking just fine and all smiles. That’s not definitive proof by any measure, but it certainly is a positive sign. Head coach Matt Nagy hinted during his press conference that the feeling was it wasn’t too serious. This would seem to offer further proof of it.
Eddy Pineiro will be needed to help sluggish offense
If he does play, it means the Bears won’t have to venture emergency alternatives ahead of what is proving to become a rather important game. All three of their NFC North rivals came away victorious on Sunday. That means Chicago needs to win on Monday night in Washington to keep pace. They’ll need everybody on deck to make it happen.
The Bears are in no position to sell their opponent short. The Redskins may be 0-2 but they’re at home and employ a quarterback in Case Keenum who’s off to a good start in 2019 with five touchdowns and no interceptions. Chicago has the far better defense. Washington ranks 25th against the pass. Unfortunately, it hasn’t taken much to slow down the Bears offense of late. They’ve scored just 19 points in two games. Mitch Trubisky has no touchdown passes.
