It’s been a week now since the new officially broke quarterback Carson Wentz is on the trade block. Initial expectations were that he could be dealt as soon as right after the Super Bowl. Yet like the game itself, the results didn’t meet the hype. Friday is nearing an end with no conclusion to the saga yet in sight. The Philadelphia Eagles haven’t moved the disgruntled signal-caller and don’t seem in a hurry to do so.

Why is that? Most believe it comes down to compensation. GM Howie Roseman had a certain number in mind for Wentz and none of the interested teams have met it. So the belief is he’s going to string things out as long as he can, hoping somebody gets desperate and ups their offer. Thus far nobody has. It’s a matter of who blinks first now.

The question still remains though. Who will Wentz end up with?

Rumors persist. Some claim the Chicago Bears have the biggest offer on the table at present, but not big enough to satisfy the Eagles. The Indianapolis Colts are the only other team that’s close but they don’t seem willing to up their offer past Chicago. Is this true? Depends on who you talk to. One thing is for sure though. People close to the Eagles see a favorite emerging from their own information.

Adam Caplan who runs the Inside The Birds podcast and is a longtime NFL insider stated quite clearly that the Colts are the favorites in his mind and have been from the start. Why? Two key reasons. Head coach Frank Reich loves Wentz and has told people he believes they can build around the 28-year old. Then there is the fact that Wentz himself has expressed a clear desire to go to Indianapolis.

He’s not alone either. Eagles legend Ron Jaworski who has plenty of connections around the league revealed what the Colts are offering for Wentz. Not only that but to his knowledge it’s the best offer on the table at present.

Eagles may be using the Bears to push Carson Wentz market higher

While it’s been reported the Bears are interested, some are starting to wonder if that interest was a little overblown. That maybe Philadelphia was trying to drag Chicago into the mix in order to get a better offer from the Colts. The truth is Carson Wentz and the Bears don’t make a ton of sense. His contract would be a huge blow since they’re already over the cap. He’d be coming to a city that is every bit as hard on quarterbacks as Philadelphia.

Not only that but throw in his shaky health history and falling out with Doug Pederson, a good friend of Matt Nagy? Not too much about this line up well. Maybe the Bears feel they can get past those concerns and make it work. In truth, all signs point to Wentz not wanting to come here. The Colts are such an obvious fit and it appears they know it. This is why the Eagles continue to stall.

They’re hoping Chicago or somebody else can beat Indy’s offer.

It appears Pace isn’t willing to oblige. Much to the relief of Bears fans. Perhaps everything could flip upside down and Wentz comes to Chicago in the end. However, all signs point to him eventually ending up with the Colts. It’s just a matter of when and for how much.
