Draft Expert Todd McShay Predicts Bears Attack the Skill Positions

-

Todd McShay is one of the most respected NFL draft experts in the business. He’s also been quite successful at predicting which direction the Chicago Bears would go over the past several years. He nailed their selection of Kevin White in 2015. He correctly pinpointed Leonard Floyd going #9 and the Bears targeting a pass rush in 2016. Then in 2018, he deduced that Roquan Smith was their eventual target. So the guy does his homework.

That is why it was interesting to see his idea for how the team will approach the 2020 class. Though they don’t have a 1st round pick, they do have two 2nd round picks. Is there a particular player or position they might focus on. McShay seems to think GM Ryan Pace will keep his eye on the skill positions. Specifically that of wide receiver and cornerback, two areas of concern.

Here are the names he feels fit their needs in his latest mock draft.

Damon Arnette, CB, Ohio State

The Bears didn’t yield much in the passing game last season, but they also didn’t do much in forcing turnovers. Plus, free agency cleaned out the secondary a bit. Arnette has smooth hips and some twitch to his game.

Jalen Reagor, WR, TCU

We gave the Bears a corner earlier on Day 2, and they still need a safety. But with no value there, it’s a good place to bring in another receiver for Nick Foles and/or Mitchell Trubisky. Reagor has wheels.”

Todd McShay is not wrong at all in his assessment

With the exit of Prince Amukamara, the Bears are left with a lot of questions at their outside corner spot opposite Kyle Fuller. Right now it’s a tossup between Kevin Toliver, Artie Burns, and Tre Roberson for who will get the nod. Not exactly ideal. Arnette was quite consistent as a player for Ohio State, collecting five interceptions in four seasons 44, 40, and 35 tackles in his final three. He’s not a flashy prospect but he does his job.

Reagor would have more than enough flash for both of them. The TCU standout is considered one of the fastest wide receivers in the 2020 class. An instant home run threat every time he touches the ball, be it on offense or special teams. He averaged 14.1 yards per touch in his college career. Not catch. Per touch. That is pretty impressive considering he also ran the ball 35 times. The kid can fly.

Matt Nagy can find all sorts of fun things to do with that.
