Demetrius Harris Has An Iconic Nickname For Jimmy Graham

-

One of the somewhat forgotten additions made by the Chicago Bears this offseason was Demetrius Harris. The big tight end was brought over after a brief run in Cleveland. He has ties to Matt Nagy from their days in Kansas City together. While not the most athletic guy in the world (his nickname is Sloth), Harris is a huge guy with good hands and blocking prowess.

He’ll have a role in this offense moving forward. One thing that has become apparent with him through the first weeks of training camp? The man is quite the character. Harris has his own unique personality. This was on full display when the Bears mic’d him up for a camp practice recently. Walking out onto the field he kept muttering the same phrase, “Be great.”

Yet the best stuff didn’t happen until later. While playing catch with his fellow tight ends, Harris began to unload a series of nicknames he has for each of them. By far the best though was saved for Jimmy Graham.

“Look at JG’s head. He’s like Rufus of Kim Possible. Thank you…

…JP? He look like the dude of The Hangover. Forgot his name. He had the baby…

…DC? He look like Method Man…

…Come on, Rufus. (Laughs) He can’t hear me.”

Demetrius Harris is the kind of personality every locker room needs

For those who aren’t familiar, here’s a quick explanation. Kim Possible was a highly popular cartoon in the early 2000s on the Disney Channel. It was about the exploits of a teenage cheerleader who doubled as a secret agent. Her best friend Ron was her partner and Ron has a pet named Rufus who was a naked mole rat. That is who Harris is comparing Graham to.

It’s clear the big tight end isn’t afraid to dig on his teammates and joke around. Such players are a necessity in any locker room. Think of Anthony Adams back in the 2000s. A guy who provided much-needed comedic relief to ease the grind of an NFL season. It’s much easier to see why the Bears targeted him in free agency.
