All of Soldier Field went quiet late in the 2nd half against the Detroit Lions. David Montgomery, the Chicago Bears star running back, was having another great game when he suddenly hit the turf. His hands went right to his left knee and he was writhing in pain. After some considerable time spent on the ground, he was helped to his feet and limped straight to the locker room. People feared the worst.
The fact the Bears immediately declared him out for the rest of the game didn’t help ease those fear either. Too many times fans have seen plays like that result in torn ACLs. If so, then the offense likely loses their best offensive weapon. Made all the worse by his backup Damien Williams receiving a quad strain of his own.

Thankfully there was a glimmer of hope.
Shortly after the game ended in a 24-14 Bears victory, Montgomery sent out a tweet. One that didn’t come across as somebody resigned to his season being over.
Subscribe to the BFR Youtube channel and ride shotgun with Dave and Ficky as they break down Bears football like nobody else.
YOU ARE AN AWESOME GOD !!!

While it’s pure speculation at this point, that tweet suggests Montgomery got favorable news in regards to the injury. That it might not be season-ending. To back this up further, Pro Football Doc David Chao suggested from the limited video available that it might be an MCL sprain. If this is true, then it means David Montgomery could return within 2-4 weeks depending on how he feels during recovery.
By limited video, worry for L knee MCL sprain.

This would be great news for the Bears. All they’d have to do is try to survive the next couple of games without him. Most likely using either Damien Williams, rookie Khalil Herbert, or a combination of the two to keep the running game going. Given the importance of easing the pressure on Justin Fields, not losing Montgomery for the year would be a tremendous stroke of good fortune. Hopefully, it’s true.

#Bears RB David Montgomery, who left with a knee injury, will have an MRI tomorrow, source said. The initial belief based on early tests is that the hyperextended knee did not lead to a major injury. But the additional tests will tell the full story.

It appears Montgomery suffered a hyperextended knee in the game. He will go receive an MRI to confirm any damage but the initial belief is he managed to avoid a major injury. A huge break for the Bears.
