Cowboys Already Planning To Honor Matt Eberflus After They Beat Bears

-

Matt Eberflus did a lot in just three years with the Chicago Bears. He fired two assistants in the space of a few weeks due to problematic relationships with women. He holds the franchise record with 14 consecutive losses. His .304 winning percentage is third-worst in Bears history, and that is only because he was fired midseason in his third year. Eberflus is also the only coach with that honor. So it isn’t exactly a surprise Bears fans are happy he’s gone. However, it was only a matter of time before he re-entered the picture.

That will be Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys visit Soldier Field. Eberflus is their defensive coordinator. He’s been quick to say he hasn’t thought about his return. Most of the time after getting fired was spent with family and looking for his next job. However, head coach Brian Schottenheimer admitted the team has designs on what they’ll do after the Cowboys get their win.

“You know,” Schottenheimer said. “I think the best thing in the world would be for us to play well, win this game, and give Matt Eberflus the game ball after we play well and beat Chicago.”

It sure sounds like they already believe the outcome is decided and can’t wait to let Eberflus have his moment of catharsis. One can imagine some players in the Bears locker room have something to say about that.

Matt Eberflus doesn’t deserve revenge.

It would be one thing if the Bears fired him for unfair reasons. That was not the case. Everything about what went wrong over the past three years was on his head. He built the locker room culture. He had a strong voice in the players acquired, and he refused to hold them or himself accountable. This idea that Matt Eberflus was wrong somehow is ridiculous. The Bears have every reason to make his life miserable on Sunday. His defense is off to a rough start. The pass rush is weak, and the run defense isn’t much better. This is a game Chicago can win, and they should have all the motivation in the world to do so. After what Eberflus put them through, it’s about sending a message.

Do they usually give DCs game balls after giving up 30+ points? Or is the cut-off mark 40?

Are they allowed to swing from the goal posts after the game?

Game ball? Russell Wilson and Malik Nabers put up 37 (?) points on his defense. Dallas won because of a soccer kicker they FOUND a year ago.
That was Eberflus?
Dallas writers are already writing that he may be fired mid-season if the Bears beat his defense. . . . like Waldron?

It’s about playing a single conference but non-division game in the NFL. The Flus stuff is just narrative. Let’s see the Bears play better on offense and defense. That would put this issue to bed, win or lose.
