Cole Kmet’s Reaction To Taking Over At Long-Snapper Was Priceless

-

The Chicago Bears took care of business in London. After a slow start in the 1st quarter, they came out firing in the 2nd to build a 14-3 lead. From there, it was a systematic beatdown of the Jacksonville Jaguars, crushing them 35-16 to reach 4-2 going into the bye week. A big part of that win was tight end Cole Kmet. He led the way with 70 receiving yards and two touchdowns, including a highlight-reel play where he shrugged off one defender and dragged another into the end zone. It was his best performance of the season.

However, it was also his most nerve-racking. Chicago ran into a big problem midway through the game. Long snapper Scott Daly had to leave with a knee injury. Teams don’t carry two snappers on gameday, which puts them in a serious bind. Kicking field goals and punts is impossible without one. That is why it is common practice to designate a player as an emergency snapper. That “honor” fell on the shoulders of Kmet.

He told Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times exactly how he got the news, and it is every bit as funny as you’d think.

Cole Kmet handled his business well enough.

There was never a moment when he made a mistake that could’ve cost his team the game. The only iffy one was in the final minutes when his snap on a field goal attempt was somewhat off. It ended up getting tipped at the line and missing. Nobody cared in the end. Chicago cruised to the win, and he was a core part of it. If Daly’s injury is a serious one, the Bears will likely go searching for a replacement. Remember, original long-snapper Patrick Scales was already out with a back injury. All Kmet had to do was survive without any big mistakes. He did that. Now, he has a fun story to tell after his career is over.
