Chicago Bears Set To Pursue Key Position In Free Agency

-

In less than a month, on March 13th, the free agency period will begin. The Chicago Bears currently hold the 8th highest amount of available cap space in the NFL. However, they have the potential to move up a few spots by making key cuts, such as veteran safety Eddie Jackson and C/Guard Cody Whitehair. According to a recent report by NFL Analyst Chad Forbes, the Bears have already started preliminary discussions with agents representing the top three free agent centers.

The top three free agent centers on the market according to Chad are:

Lloyd Cushenberry III – Projected contract, 4 yrs — $14.28m avg/yr
Tyler Biadasz – Projected contract, 3 yrs — $7m avg/yr
Andre James – Projected contract, 3 yrs — $9m avg/yr

This is a great development because the Bears have a clear need at center. Bringing in a veteran center would be the ideal scenario, especially if the Bears decide to draft a rookie quarterback this off-season.

Bears will need to sign a competent free agent Center. The Bears also need to draft a Center too, but the draft pick may need time to develop.

It’s unusual that an O-line “expert” like Bears GM, Ryan Poles would wait until he is about to trade away his “franchise QB” to finally search for an offensive center to protect his team’s prime asset.

Apparently, JF1 was never actually Ryan Poles’ guy.

my thoughts exactly. Until the league year starts, talking to agents is tampering.

Is this “inside” sure the Bears have had conversations with the agents of free agent centers? If I’m not mistaken, until the new league year begins next month (or technically, the “legal tampering period”), that’s still tampering and illegal in the NFL. Maybe it happens, we don’t know, but I definitely don’t think if it did, any “insider” would be privy to it.
