Despite all the Le’Veon Bell rumors, it never felt realistic that the Chicago Bears would make him one of their new additions at running back. GM Ryan Pace has always preferred to play it on the cheaper side at that position and 2019 is proving no exception. Word has come down that the team will be signing veteran Mike Davis to the roster when the league year opens on Wednesday.
Davis is a former 4th round pick of the San Francisco 49ers out of South Carolina. He spent two years there, accomplished little and left to join the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. After a year on the bench, he finally got significant action in 2018 and made the most of it. He ran for 514 yards, averaging 4.6 per carry, and also caught 34 passes. He scored five touchdowns in total. Not bad for the limited touches he saw.
Former #Seahawks RB Mike Davis is signing with the #Bears, source said. The former practice squad earns his first big payday.

Davis flashed considerable potential. He clearly has some versatility to his game. He runs hard with good quickness and acceleration and doesn’t seem to struggle catching the ball either. Is he a surefire replacement for Jordan Howard? That’s a hard one to argue. However, he could definitely be a strong component of a possible committee approach the Bears have in mind.
It’s not like that’s something Matt Nagy hasn’t done before. He just needs the right pieces. Davis has shown enough to at least be that. This is a classic Pace move. Getting a younger player on a relatively cheap deal when his career is just starting to trend up. It worked for Akiem Hicks. It worked for Bobby Massie. Maybe it can work here too.
