Matt Eberflus doesn’t seem like the kind of guy interested in wasting time. Just 24 hours after he was named the head coach of the Chicago Bears, he’s been hard at work trying to put his staff together. He understands how vital it is to build the strongest supporting cast possible and thus far the guy is pulling on some impressive names. Rich Bisaccia, hero of the Raiders’ recent playoff run, is in line to become special teams coordinator. Dave Borgonzi could be their linebackers coach fresh off turning Darius Leonard into a superstar.
Cornerbacks coach James Rowe will also come over from Indianapolis and rumors persist Rod Marinelli could be an option for defensive line coach. The team is also seeking to lure Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy to Chicago as their new offensive coordinator with veteran Pep Hamilton possibly coming in as quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Now there is another name Eberflus has in mind. According to a source, the Bears are hoping to land Bill Callahan as their new offensive line coach.
For those who don’t know the name, you should.
Callahan has coached offensive line in the NFL since way back in 1995. Since then, his teams have ranked top 10 in rushing for a season an astounding 10 times. They’ve also ranked top 10 in the fewest sacks allowed since 2003 six times. Among the players he has helped mold into stars include the following list. All of whom became Pro Bowlers under his watch.

Better still, there are reasons to believe he would make the jump from Cleveland. For one, he has a personal connection to Eberflus. They worked together for a few years in Dallas from 2012 to 2014. Secondly, Callahan was born and raised in Chicago. It was his home all the way through college and his first seven seasons of coaching. At 65-years old, this might be his last chance to come home and coach for the Chicago Bears.
One thing is clear. If Eberflus pulls this off, it would be absolute highway robbery. Not just for Justin Fields but also David Montgomery and Khalil Herbert as well.
