Chicago Bears May Have Already Caught a Break With Early Schedule

-

The Chicago Bears have had a lot of trouble getting off to strong starts in previous seasons. They’re hoping that trend finally ends in 2020. They haven’t won their opening game since 2013. That’s also the last time they went 2-0 to start a year. It looks like an opportunity might be there to end both streaks. They start the season in Detroit against a Lions team they’ve swept each of the past two years. Then they return home to play a New York Giants team that was one of the worst in the NFL last season.

A team the Bears beat last season as well. Now their odds may have slightly improved for the rematch. Word out of Miramar, Florida is that an arrest warrant has been issue for Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker. Apparently the charges involve four counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm. Keep in mind Baker was a 1st round pick for the team last season.

Expectations were for him to form a strong duo with new addition James Bradberry in the secondary. Those plans appear dead.

Chicago Bears might be catching a Giants team in transition

It’s hard to see where the Giants are at. They just overhauled their entire coaching staff for the second time in four years. In addition to Baker being in trouble, they still haven’t been able to replace pass rusher Markus Golden. To say nothing of the fact that quarterback Daniel Jones will being changing offensive schemes in just his second year. Something that could stunt his growth.

No game is a guarantee in the NFL but one thing is for sure. Losing Baker isn’t going to make things easier for the Giants this season. Especially if they have to face Nick Foles who always seemed to take pleasure in having good games against them when he was in Philadelphia. Then again they also lost to Mitch Trubisky so Chicago might be in a good spot either way.
