Chicago Bears Make Their Final 53-Man Roster Official

-

The Chicago Bears needed to make their final roster decisions ahead of the September 5th deadline. True to form, they didn’t release any announcement until hours after it had passed. Annoyances aside, the decisions weren’t huge surprises from a cuts perspective. Most of the names involved couldn’t be called roster locks.

However, Kevin Toliver was a notable name that most thought would be there. Even so, that didn’t stop the Bears from having a few names on the final depth chart that some people probably didn’t see coming. Sadly none of them were undrafted free agents. A reminder of how brutal the COVID-19 realities have made it for those young kids.

Odds are several end up on the practice squad though. Here is the 53-man setup as it stands today.

There are some really cool stories coming out of this. Ryan Nall, a longtime practice squad and preseason guy was able to make the roster. Both Javon Wims and Riley Ridley made it thanks to a heated competition in camp. Former undrafted guard Alex Bars made it too along with 7th round rookie Arlington Hambright. Some interesting young projects there.

One other twist of note? The Bears will only carry four inside linebackers. This after carrying six the year before. Another reminder of how roster priorities change from season to season. If more moves are coming in the next day or two, odds are it will be cornerback, defensive line, and running back.
