Chicago Bears Host Prolific QB At Local Pro Day

-

Justin Fields is the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. That won’t change this year. The organization has made that clear. However, GM Ryan Poles won’t stop evaluating possible additions for that position. Depth is always important in the NFL, especially there. The Bears found that out again last season. While P.J. Walker and Nathan Peterman appear to be the #2 and #3 guys behind Fields, the Bears might be considering a fourth for the upcoming summer. One name they took a look at is Evan Lewandowski.

The Lake Zurich native was a standout quarterback for Wisconsin-Whitewater, one of the top Division III programs in the country. He led them to the national semifinals in 2021, where they, unfortunately, lost to eventual champion Mary Hardin-Baylor. The next year he got them back to the playoffs but lost in an opening round shootout 33-28. Not only is Lewandowski a diehard Bears fan, but he’s also great friends with Jack Sanborn. The linebacker had some advice for him going into the team’s local pro day this week, according to Larry Mayer.

Sanborn, who emerged as a regular contributor as an undrafted rookie last season, offered Lewandowski some friendly advice heading into the Bears’ local pro day.

“He said, ‘just sling the rock,'” Lewandowski said. “He’s been telling me that since high school. That’s his advice; just go out and be myself.”

The Chicago Bears have reasons to be interested.

Lewandowski is 6’4 and just shy of 200 lbs. That is solid size for a quarterback in the NFL. He’s also not a complete statue, showing numerous times that he can use his legs to either buy time or take off and run. That is a big key in this offense. He also seems capable of standing in the pocket and reading the field, going through progressions. His accuracy isn’t too bad though he does have a tendency to get reckless with the football at times. When he’s on, though, he can light up the stat sheet. Lewandowski holds the D-III record for most TDs in a single game with nine.

Nobody will say this kid is the second coming of Kurt Warner or anything. His arm strength is average and there is almost always a reason somebody can’t get a look from bigger schools. That said, Lewandowski has enough potential to compete for one of the backup spots in training camp. It will depend on how good of an impression he made during the pro day. Getting a good word from Sanborn probably won’t hurt, either.

I went to the same high school as this kid. Be careful with this kid. Huge hazing report came out when he was in school. It said it went be back in the day but there were rumors he was involved when he was in school. I would just avoid him

Maybe – maybe – if this young man is available late in the draft. The Bears have a ton of higher priorities.

This kid has numbers to really consider. He will be available in the 3rd round, possibly 4th. He may work into a good receiver too
