The Chicago Bears have dealt with some difficult injury news this week, learning that star safety Eddie Jackson will remain out until the playoffs. Joining him will be key wide receiver Allen Robinson who suffered a rib injury in San Francisco. Not the best situation going into a tough environment to play like Minnesota. A place the Bears haven’t won a game since 2011.
However, it’s not all bad news. The team got a huge boost on Saturday when it was announced they would be activating right guard Kyle Long from Injured Reserve, signaling that he is fully recovered from the injury that sidelined him earlier in the year. His addition to the offensive line will be a huge help in not only protecting Mitch Trubisky but also improving their somewhat inconsistent running game.
Big news for the #Bears: OL Kyle Long is being activated today, source said. A huge lift before the playoffs, on the field and in the locker room.

It’s worth noting that the Bears have missed Long. At least it seems that way based on offensive results. In the four games he played prior to injury, they scored 48, 28, 31, and 24 points. Since then they’ve only managed to score more than 30 in a game once. It’s clear his stability, leadership, and skill were missed.

That’s not a knock on backup Bryan Witzmann who has done an admirable job in his stead the past couple of months. Long though has earned the right to get back into action. No player on that roster has endured more heartbreak the past five years than him both from a losing and injury perspective. Getting a chance to be back for the playoffs is something he richly deserves.
