Chicago Bears Deliver Most Surprising Moment Of Final Cuts

-

The Chicago Bears didn’t make any noteworthy decision throughout most of the final cuts down to the 53-man limit. That is until they managed to drop a single notable bomb. Kevin Toliver, the former undrafted free agent who seemed poised and ready to take over for Prince Amukamara as the starter opposite Kyle Fuller, found himself being waived instead.

It’s not clear why they did this. After cutting Amukamara and then losing both Artie Burns and Tre Roberson to season-ending injuries, the depth chart looks rather thin at cornerback. His performance in training camp must’ve been just that unsatisfactory for the coaching staff. The word from Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune is the team might be looking for more veteran help on the open market.

Amukamara was recently released by the Oakland Raiders. He could make a swift return on a cheaper deal to provide some help.

Chicago Bears putting major trust in their rookie class

It was obvious from the start that the Bears really liked both of their draft picks from back in April. They took Jaylon Johnson out of Utah in the 2nd round. He is now slated to start opposite Fuller. Then they grabbed Georgia Southern’s Kindle Vildor who has performed above expectations in training camp. It was likely his presence that convinced the team Toliver wasn’t necessary.

This is a good thing. If they do bring back Amukamara or add another veteran, the team should have a great mix of talent and experience moving into the regular season. As for Toliver himself? Odds are he’ll find his way onto the practice squad where the team can continue working with him and perhaps bring him back at a later date.
