Caleb Williams Seems To Have Started His Push To Get Bears To Draft Him

-

The 2023 NFL season is almost over. The Chicago Bears have one game left to play. It’s a big one. Their rematch with the Green Bay Packers. This time, they must go into what will be a hostile Lambeau Field knowing the Packers are fighting for a playoff spot. Much of the pressure falls on the shoulders of Justin Fields. He has yet to beat Green Bay, sitting at 0-5 against them. If he loses again, that won’t make his efforts to earn another year in Chicago any easier. It will likely heighten the calls among some fans to draft Caleb Williams.

Everything points to the USC star declaring for the NFL draft this April. It makes sense. Many experts believe he is the heavy favorite to become the #1 overall pick. No doubt he hopes that is the case. After all, the honor comes not only with tons of prestige but a substantial payday. Many believe Williams doesn’t want to play in Chicago based on their dubious track record with quarterbacks. However, recent activities suggest otherwise. Eagle-eyed fans on Twitter (X) found Williams liked a rather noteworthy tweet.

Caleb Williams clearly isn’t dumb.

The fact he liked that tweet means he’s following the Bears’ Twitter handle, which means he is keeping an eye on what is happening around the organization. He knows they hold the key to his future in one way or another. Liking that tweet is a subtle indicator that he is more than open to playing for the organization. He’s not dumb. The pre-draft process isn’t only about what you put on tape. It is also about making the right impression. Top draft spots are often won or lost in the interview process. Williams no doubt hopes to show and say the right things.

Chicago will meet with him in the months to come. The first opportunity could be at the Senior Bowl in early February now that the event is allowing underclassmen. Another chance will be the scouting combine on February 26th. This doesn’t include the likely private visit the Bears will have with him as well. GM Ryan Poles will give Caleb Williams every opportunity to make his case.

@Beardown54 I like what you said about both myself, and what you think of various QBs available in the draft this year. I am analytical. Probably about everything, and it can drive people nuts, but I differ between the player and the team. I want to see the team win. I think Justin Fields can get there there. I also think any number of other quarterbacks can get them there, but no quarterback can get them there with this kind of coaching, and with ONLY a quarterback, and no one else. So they need to put their resources first, in… Read more »

Wouldn’t hurt my feelings if the Bears stand pat and trade the number 1 pick for what they got last year. I mean with the extra picks they can trade them for a QB next year after they get another WR, DE, C, S, TE. I can only imagine this team going into the off-season is going to be hungry and ready for next year. In all reality they should have won 10 or 11 games this year. I would say a 12 or 13 win season is where their goals should be next year.

Fields and the Bears need a fresh start. That being said, not everything is equal when evaluating this team. Everyone agrees Nagy wasn’t a good head coach. Everyone agrees Eberflus first season doesn’t really count because it was a complete teardown year. Everyone agrees Fields hasn’t won enough games… So in his rookie season he was thrown to the wolves under a clueless coach. In his second season he had 4 or 5 games in a row that he scored 28 or more points and lost all of them. In his third season he missed 4 games with an injury.… Read more »

I would not call you a hardcore supporter. Although my personal opinion is you are more than you think you are..You are analytical Im just a fan who trusts his eyes and watches YouTube. I know that I know nothing but I have my beliefs either way. I trust poles to make the right decision; whatever that is. The draft is a crapshoot Pooch, I agree with that. NFL franchises can not project elite QB play. I am more of a gambler than you are. The reward outweighs the risk IMO. If they stay with JF1 I would live with… Read more »

Question: is anyone a “hardcore” supporter who makes assessments based on an NFL player vs. a DRAFT pick? A college draft pick, and guessing based on, what? What are any of you people, making guesses about college players basing YOUR assessments on? Statistics? Against whom? “Pro” scouts or “Mock” drafts based on what Mel Kiper, or Adam Schefter, or blah, blah think? Does anyone which draft analyst had Tyson Bagent on their list of top 20 quarterbacks? How about Brock Purdy? How about Jake Browning? Am I a “hardcore JF1 supporter? Actually, I’d trade him in a heartbeat for Justin… Read more »
