Bears Reportedly Thrilled With Caleb Williams’ Rapid Progress

-

People have talked about the rough outing Caleb Williams had against the Chicago Bears’ defense at Organized Team Activities last week. Inevitably, this led to instant panic among fans. However, it was only one day of work. Safety Kevin Byard insisted the young quarterback had already gotten the better of them the previous practice. That rough outing was merely their response. In truth, the team brass wasn’t at all concerned about such a minor hiccup. They’ve been keeping a big-picture view with Williams.

According to Stacey Dales of NFL Network, the organization is “tickled” about his rapid progress since arriving in April. They believe he has absorbed the offense much faster than hoped, showcasing the intelligence they’d scouted over the past three years. This isn’t about one practice. They know growing pains are part of the process. Their goal is to make sure Williams is as comfortable as possible while getting used to the speed of the NFL level. Working against such a talented defense will only help him.

Caleb Williams controls his own destiny.

That is the only thing he asked for when coming out of college. He wanted to land with a team that had his best interests at heart. He wanted a team eager to win. The Bears showed this by gearing their entire off-season around providing him help. They hired Shane Waldron as offensive coordinator, whom he worked with at the QB Collective a few years ago. They signed 1,000-yard rusher D’Andre Swift, traded for six-time Pro Bowl receiver Keenan Allen, and drafted wide receiver Rome Odunze 9th overall.

This is the best situation on paper a #1 pick at quarterback has ever stepped into. Nobody can say the Bears haven’t done everything in their power to give Caleb Williams the help he needs to reach the NFL mountaintop. All they can do is wait and see how he develops. Based on what they’ve seen thus far, he’s as advertised. Excitement is building. The real work begins at the end of July. Don’t expect Williams to stop his ceaseless preparation before then. His competitiveness would never allow it.
