Bears Mailbag -- What Is The Plan At EDGE?

LOUISVILLE — It’s been a crazy week, and I’m writing this from a pretty hipster coffee shop in Derby Country. I won’t be able to go into too much detail in this week’s Chicago Bears Mailbag due to time constraints, but I wanted to get some Twitter Q&A from my Mailbag out to you for this week.

The NFL off-season is long; and it’s even longer if you don’t get Bears content out!

They absolutely have to upgrade EDGE opposite Khalil Mack. They don't have a #2 rusher or a #3! I'd like for them to sign a free agent (think Jason Pierre-Paul or Markus Golden) and draft someone relatively early, too. They need to double-dip at this position.

I think he was always a great QB coach, and maybe will be a great leader (as a head coach) some day. He just struggled as an OC / play-caller, and that's what has crushed his stock a bit. I expect him to rise as the Bears' QB coach. If he can make Trubisky competent? Boom.

I do think the Bears would be wise to look into adding a WR. Taylor Gabriel is a trade candidate. We still don't know what Riley Ridley truly is. Javon Wims has promise but is still an unknown. Anthony Miller is having surgery again.

They have lots of talented question marks.

From a PR perspective it might look odd, but if Ryan Pace truly thinks Adam Trautman is the best prospect available, he'll probably draft him. I just think there will be other, better TE prospects available there (IMO).

Trubisky. I thought his superior physical attributes would put him over the top. I never thought Trubisky would be this severely lacking from an acumen perspective, though.

Very interesting — Lovie certainly would've lasted past 2012. But I wonder how the possible continuity with Mike Martz and Jay Cutler would've offset an aging defense… perhaps he lasts another couple season, but I'd imagine he'd have run his course before 2020.
