Bears Insider Reveals What Trade Up For Ashton Jeanty Will Look Like

-

There is no hotter rumor before the NFL draft right now than the Chicago Bears gearing up for a trade up from #10 to grab Ashton Jeanty. Everybody thinks head coach Ben Johnson is in love with the Boise State running back, seeing him as a critical piece to the new offense. Fans aren’t wild about the idea, feeling the Bears shouldn’t sacrifice more ammunition in unnecessary aggressive moves. That said, GM Ryan Poles is duty-bound to get his head coach the player he wants. If Johnson is dead set on Jeanty, the Bears are likely to find a way.

That leads to the more important question for fans. If the team does move up, what would it cost? Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron reached out to league sources for a sense of what that could look like. He came away with this.

“Ben Johnson is smitten. He has a QB. He has a TE. He has a couple of WRs. He needs his RB. The Bears trade 10 and 41 for 5 and 107.”

In other words, the Bears swapped #10 for #5 and their later 2nd round pick for the Jaguars’ 4th round pick. They retain seven picks in this draft and don’t give up anything in 2026. All things considered, that isn’t a terrible outcome, provided it plays out that way.

Everybody is convinced Ashton Jeanty goes at #5.

The only uncertainty is who makes the pick. Some insiders think the Jaguars will stay put and take the running back themselves, giving new head coach Liam Coen the perfect instrument for his run-heavy attack. Others think they will swing the deal with Chicago. Everything depends on how determined Jacksonville is to move down. Word has spread for days that several teams in the top 10 want to trade back. That is almost guaranteed to weaken the Jaguars’ market for such a move, hence the lower price tag the Bears would pay.

Do they prefer Ashton Jeanty straight up at #5 or Tet McMillan at #10 while getting a 2nd round pick for a 4th? Their new GM comes from the Rams, a team that developed a reputation for being aggressive with their 1st round picks. They only traded down once in the long history of their current regime. This would be an outlier from his point of view.

@Barry: Erik has picked a lane. He picks all of them. Every time.

Jeanty at 5 without giving up more than two rounds and 1.10, I can live with. The points are very close on the Hill chart. Graham at 1.10 I can live with. Worried about rumors that Graham has two bad knees and a bad shoulder. Hope it’s draft smoke, certainly for his sake.

I truly see a trade back coming. Just my gut feeling. Not that I want that but I just don’t see anyone falling to 10. One scenario that would truly be huge for us is if some soon to be fired GM takes Sanders in the top 10. Come on Giants!!!

If the Bears are trading up to five to draft Jeanty and pass on Graham I can’t say I’m going to be a fan of that at all. It’s not a great chance, but Graham could very well be available at ten. Graham, JTT, Judkins, Fannin, for arguments sake. Adding a starting IDL and starting DE, a strong rotation at DL, we just watched the Eagles win a SB because of their DL. And, sure, Saquon, which is why I want a RB drafted early and is reflected here. Best options for the Bears? See what falls to you at… Read more »
